Summer 2014 - Advocacy Committee Update

Advocacy

On Friday, May 2nd, the Southern California HIMSS Chapter hosted their 2nd Annual Advocacy Roundtable with local representatives, in conjunction with the 6th Annual Clinical Informatics event held at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). This year, SoCal was honored to have State Assemblyman Donald Wagner and Field Representative Joe Sturges, Amy Walker, Deputy District Director for Congressman Darrell Issa, Scott Peotter, Field Representative for Assemblyman Alan Mansoor, and other local dignitaries.

At the roundtable, the representatives discussed how Southern California HIMSS could assist and impact the healthcare agendas locally. Assemblyman Wagner delivered useful and good advice on how to address our concerns - be proactive and call his office when we see impact to Healthcare IT on specific bills that are being presented for Committee consideration. Once an agenda is released with bills, inform his office on possible concerns, issues, etc. on the particular bill. Being proactive with our voice will serve all involved better, strengthen relationships and change how government is approaching healthcare IT.

After the roundtable, each representative was able to address the attendees at the Clinical Informatics event, where a small question/answer session was moderated.

We ask that each Chapter member voice their concern in a concerted manner through the SoCal HIMSS Chapter Advocacy Committee. We have built relationships with each of the Assembly Health Committee members and can voice your opinion through our forum.

See something that is of concern happening in California Healthcare Technology, call us, talk to us and let us be your voice!

Thank you.
