Summer 2014 - Message from the President

Clark KegleyWelcome to the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Southern California Chapter website! HIMSS celebrated its 52nd Anniversary in 2013 with over 52,000 members, 600 corporations, and 250 not-for-profit partner organizations, and is focused on providing leadership in healthcare for the management of systems, technology and information. The Southern California Chapter has over 2200 members across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Imperial, Kern, Riverside, San Bernadino and Ventura counties. Thanks to the unrivaled commitment of our members, sponsors and chapter leaders, our Chapter received the 2011-2012 HIMSS Presidential Level designation for Recognition of Advocacy and the HIMSS National Chapter of the Year Award twice in the last 3 years.

Our industry continues to experience incredible change. Meaningful Use (MU) attestation is in full swing, ICD-10 has a new timeline, Health Information Exchanges are popping up everywhere and dead center in all of it is healthcare information technology. Our dedicated Southern California Chapter Board of Directors and Leaders are here to serve you, our members, by being a resource for healthcare information technology topics, current events and developments we are facing today. In bringing together the knowledge and experience of our members, sponsors, partner organizations and additional experts in the field, we provide our community with exceptional educational programs that include the newest information, as well as opportunities for professional development and networking. We have been known for our innovative programs for several years now and they are part of the reason our chapter won the Chapter of the Year award in 2012 and 2014.

Our chapter held our annual planning meeting on May 30th in Orange County and it was attended by 2 dozen of our Board members, committee chairs/members and other chapter leaders. We use this session to review our progress-to-date on our 5 year goals and plan for the coming year. It was very exciting to see so many new faces who attended and are new volunteers in the Chapter. The chapter will continue to aggressively pursue dissemination of knowledge and information around healthcare IT and providing value to our members.

Jim gavelMy term as chapter President will come to an end on June 30th. I am supremely confident that our incoming President, James Brady, and all the rest of our exceptional volunteers and Board members will continue to steer our chapter in the right direction. It has been an incredible honor, and a massive pleasure, to serve as your Chapter President. Thank you for your continued support of the Southern California Chapter and I look forward to talking with you at the many upcoming events and programs.

Have a wonderful summer!

Clark Kegley
