Presentation Overview

Join the Greater IL and Minnesota Chapters of HIMSS for a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence. This session, facilitated by Greg Smith from Accenture, will feature panelists with AI experiences across the healthcare system – from provider and payer organizations to suppliers. Questions for the panelists will cover a variety of AI topics including the evolution of AI in healthcare, COVID-19, innovation, and ethics, bias, and health equity.

Learning Objectives

  1. Share insights on AI initiatives from different organizations within the healthcare industry, including payers, providers, and suppliers/vendors
  2. Provide commentary on current and future considerations for healthcare AI on topics related to COVID-19, innovation, and others as requested by the attendees
  3. Discuss ethics and bias considerations as it relates to AI and health equity

Panelists

Mike Eichsteadt - Sr. Director of Provider and Network Data Science, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

Mike develops precision models for provider performance measurement, member predictive insights, and anomaly detection for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of IL (HCSC). Prior to that, Mike spent the first ten years of his data science journey in property and casualty insurance. At Liberty Mutual and Lincoln Financial, he led teams that implemented a scalable compute platform and launched ML-based member-level pricing and claim adjudication models.

Mark Foley – Director of Artificial Intelligence, Mayo Clinic

Mark K. Foley is the Director of Artificial Intelligence in the Center for Digital Health at Mayo Clinic. He is leading a team for AI Innovation and Enablement and is working to establish Mayo as the premier AI healthcare organization in the world.
Mr. Foley has an extensive background in IT with over 25 years’ experience in informatics, research, building and implementing an EMR and departmental IT systems such as radiology, laboratory medicine, cardiology and GI. He has led teams building an enterprise data repository and applications on top of the data repository for population health, real-time alerting algorithms and innovative patient care tools.
Mr. Foley has master’s degrees in Biochemistry and Theological Studies and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science.

Judy Murphy – Nurse Executive and HIT Leader (Former CNO, IBM)

Andrew Naidech, MD, MSPH – Neurologist, Professor and Faculty Director at Northwestern University, and Physician Informatics Director at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare

Dr. Naidech is committed to using data to improve patient care and patient outcomes, particularly using machine learning and electronic health records. He is board-certified in clinical informatics, neurology, vascular neurology, and neurocritical care, and holds a MSPH in biostatistics. The Northwestern model for clinical discovery combines in-person patient ascertainment and adjudicated data, queries of the electronic health record, and analysis of large data sets. These data are subjected to the continuum of analysis from statistics ("white box") to machine learning/data science ("black box") algorithms to derive insights and advance patient care. Manuscripts from Dr. Naidech’s team are frequently cited in guidelines and several have changed the standard of care and widespread patient practice (e.g., prophylactic seizure medications). He also co-authored the guidelines for the management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (American Heart Association) and neurologic monitoring (Neurocritical Care Society). Dr. Naidech also serves as the Faculty Director for the Master of Science in Health Analytics program at NU's School of Professional Studies.
