R. Hal Baker, MD, FACP, Senior VP Clinical Improvement and CIO - WellSpan, a regional integrated health system that serves four counties in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. In this capacity, Dr. Baker leads quality and safety initiatives as well as the use of information technology as a means to create a reliable patient experience across the health system’s hospitals, physician practices and ambulatory facilities.

Under Dr. Baker’s leadership, WellSpan developed a patient centered approach to leveraging technology for clinical benefit. WellSpan’s EHR journey has been distinguished by innovations in several areas such as an internally developed patient portal that offers patients same day access to patient notes, imaging results, and laboratory values, as well as online self-scheduling. WellSpan was also the pioneer development partner in the first ever implementation of closed loop IV pump integration with an EHR.

As a practicing internal medicine physician, Dr. Baker continues to provide primary care services to the York community in the same practice he has served in for over two decades. Dr. Baker joined WellSpan York Hospital in June 1995 as associate program director of the WellSpan York Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Baker came to York after completing a general internal medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a medical degree from Cornell University.
