Casey Hossa
Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer

Casey Hossa was Vice President of Technology at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois before coming to MultiCare in 2017. He previously worked as Managing Director for the Information Services Division at United Airlines for seven years. Hossa has an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Information Systems from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Mani Nair

Director, Information Systems

Mani Nair is Director of Software Engineering and Business Intelligence at Seattle-based Virginia Mason Health System, one of the largest non-profit health organizations in the Pacific Northwest. 
Mani holds a MBA from Rockhurst University and a Master of Science degree from University of Manitoba. He joined Virginia Mason in 2014 and before that he had software engineering leadership roles at University of Kansas Medical Center, Pega Systems and Cerner Corporation.

Ellen Wiegand

VP, Chief Information Officer 

Ellen Wiegand is Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Seattle-based Virginia Mason Health System, one of the largest non-profit health organizations in the Pacific Northwest. 
She holds a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University. She is also certified in the Virginia Mason Production System, the innovative management method used across the Virginia Mason organization to continuously improve quality, safety and operational efficiency.
Before joining Virginia Mason about 10 years ago, Ellen held technology leadership roles at Catholic Health Initiatives and at Cerner, a leading health information technology company. 

Karen Appelbaum

Executive Director, Enterprise Access Operations & Technology 

Karen is the Executive Director for Enterprise Access operations and technology at Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH). In this role, Karen leads the strategy, operations, and technology for how patients and providers navigate care across the large and diverse PSJH health system. This work has included the creation of a Patient Engagement Center with high-touch concierge services, and a consumer engagement platform with technology such as a robust enterprise provider directory and a CRM system to manage a 365 degree view of consumers. 

Maryam Gholami

VP, Head of Product & Design, Digital Innovations

Maryam has over 15 years of experience in leading product strategy and development for large and small companies including Microsoft and Practice Fusion, leading design, engineering and data science teams, and working with marketing, operations and sales.

CJ Vankataraman

Chief Product Officer

CJ Venkataraman is Chief Product Officer at Vera, leading our Product Management, Customer Success, Business Operations and Digital teams. CJ believes that putting customers at the center of Vera’s efforts is the only way to build trusting, successful partnerships.

CJ’s previous roles included Chief Information Officer of Delta Dental of Washington, Chief Information Officer and Vice President of the Systems and Technology Group at Intellectual Ventures, Director of Technology Architecture and Development at Corbis, and various lead engineering roles at Microsoft. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Washington state chapter of Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) and a Board of Director at the Seattle University MSBA program

Kelly Reasco-Summers

Chief Nursing Informatics Officer

My professional practice as a nurse and clinical leader is grounded in the tenants of person-focused, data supported, evidence-based care delivery. My clinical interests include applied clinical informatics focusing on digital health intervention development and adoption; transformation of care delivery through enabling technology; and developing informatics skill at all organizational levels. I am equally passionate about empowering individuals in the management of their health and healthcare.

Dr. Rod Tarrago, MD

Chief Medical Informatics Officers

Throughout my career, I've had a passion for leveraging technology and innovation to improve the care of children while simultaneously enhancing the experience and efficiency of the clinicians taking care of them. I've successfully led implementations of CPOE, clinician documentation, and medication reconciliation and have helped multidisciplinary teams tackle long-standing problems through novel and collaborative thinking. I have combined my clinical skills as an experienced pediatric critical care physician with those as a board-certified clinical informatics specialist to more rapidly and effectively leverage existing and new technologies in our evolving health care system.

Carol Shade, DNP, RN, CPHIMS

Chief Nursing Informatics Officer

Healthcare leader with over 12 years of experience bridging the gap between nursing and IT. Passionate about optimizing IT solutions to meet the needs of frontline clinical staff, resulting in improved patient outcomes for every patient.

Carol servces as Organizational Nurse Leader for Nursing Informatics, directing a team of masters prepared informatics nurse specialists and all clinical efforts related to the electronic health record (EHR) or other clinically-focused technology solutions. Defines and sets EHR strategy in collaboration with CMIO, IT leadership and senior nurse leaders. Experience in leading large-scale EHR deployments including training and post go-live support models.

Received Doctorate in Nursing Practice, Healthcare Leadership and recognized as a Senior Member of HIMSS holding a certificate as a Certified Professional in Health Information Systems (CPHIMS) since 2006. Passionate about optimizing IT solutions to meet the needs of frontline clinical staff, resulting in improved patient outcomes for every patient. Believes strongly in the inclusion of clinical staff as a way to impact overall adoption and an avenue to transform healthcare.

Dr. Zafar Chaudry, MD MS MIS MBA CITP
Senior Vice-President & Chief Information Officer

Dr. Zafar Chaudry has been Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice-President of Seattle Children's Hospital since November 06, 2017.  Through his role, he provides vision and leadership for the development of technology initiatives and enterprise-wide information systems and services for Seattle Children’s.  His goal is to enable clinicians with the best technology to deliver safe and excellent care to our patients.
Dr. Chaudry was recently named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 100 Hospital CIOs to Know (2019), CIO magazine’s list of U.K. CIO’s to follow on Twitter (2019) and Becker's Hospital Review (USA) 105 Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know (2018). He was also named to the CIO.CO.UK’s Top 100 list of the most transformative CIOs in the U.K. (2017) and Government Computing’s top 100 influential technology leaders in the U.K. public sector (2010).
Dr. Chaudry, who began his career as a physician, has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of information technology. His background includes work in both healthcare and corporate settings in the U.S., Australia, Western Europe and the U.K., in enterprise infrastructure development; business intelligence; unified telecommunications; and implementation of health care information and electronic medical record systems. He previously served as Chief Information Officer at Cambridge University Hospitals in the United Kingdom. Prior to Cambridge University Hospitals, he served as Global Research Director at Gartner. He also served as Chief Information Officer at the Liverpool Women's and Alder Hey Children's Hospitals in the U.K.; Consulting Editor for Hospital Information Technology Europe Magazine; Information Technology Strategist for the Vision4Children Pediatric Charity in the U.K. and Teaching Faculty at the City Colleges of Chicago.
Dr. Chaudry earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross University. He subsequently earned his Master of Science degree in health care policy and management from the University of Birmingham. He also holds a Master of Science degree in information systems management from the University of Salford and his Master of Business Administration from Aston University, all in the U.K.

Dr. Jeff Clarke, MD, FACP

Chief Medical Informatics Officer

Dr. Clarke is the Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Confluence Health. Confluence Health is an integrated healthcare delivery system that includes two hospitals, more than 40 medical specialties and primary care, to provide comprehensive medical care throughout North Central Washington. With over 270 physicians and 150 advanced practice clinicians, Confluence Health is the major medical provider between Seattle and Spokane.

Scott Waters

Chief Information Officer

Scott Waters is the Chief Information Officer and IT Security Officer for Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue. Scott joined Overlake in 2015 after relocating to the Seattle-metro area from Reno/Lake Tahoe.

Prior to joining Overlake, Scott held various technology leadership roles over the previous decade, with a focus in healthcare. He is a believer in empowering users to act as “human firewalls,” to help secure and protect the information of patients and the organization. His mantra is: “Early detection/reporting is almost as effective as prevention,” when it comes to IT security.

Dr. Tom Lang, MD

Thomas Lang MD ABIM BCEM, was trained in Internal Medicine and is currently practicing as an Emergency Physician.  Dr. Lang has a broad clinical background. His work in the ER has included the full spectrum of hospitals across the country, from inner city level 1 trauma centers to some of the most isolated Critical Access hospitals in America.  Dr. Lang has practiced as an inpatient critical care physician and an office-based internist.

As a partner in a large multi-specialty group for more than 10 years, Dr. Lang was very involved in most business aspects, including financial, QA, managed care contracting, etc.  He served for many years as a Medical Director of a nursing home, and for one year as a senior executive in a publicly traded physician management firm.  Dr. Lang has also practiced as a healthcare management consultant throughout his multi-faceted medical career.

Dr. Lang became interested in health IT due to dissatisfaction with products encountered in clinical work resulting in his involvement with a clinically-focused software start-up.  As a member of the PDF Healthcare working group for a number of years, Dr. Lang has been involved in several projects related to health information exchange.  Recently, Dr. Lang worked with a non-profit on federal grant funded projects to integrate State PDMPs (prescription drug monitoring programs) into existing health digital environments.  Dr. Lang has a special interest in simplification and optimization of the end-user experience with health information technology, especially as it relates to software design and development. Dr. Lang is an active user of speech recognition and is familiar with the speech recognition solutions in the market.
