Speaker Bios

Keynote:
Anthony C. Chang, MD, MBA, MPH, MS

Dr. Chang attended Johns Hopkins University for his B.A. in molecular biology prior to entering Georgetown University School of Medicine for his M.D. He then completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. 

He accepted a position as attending cardiologist in the cardiovascular intensive care unit of Boston Children’s Hospital and as assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He has been the medical director of several pediatric cardiac intensive care programs (including Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Miami Children’s Hospital, and Texas Children’s Hospital) and is currently the Chief Intelligence and Innovation Officer and Medical Director of the Heart Failure Program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. He has also been named a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.

He is known for several innovations in pediatric cardiac care, including introducing the cardiac drug milrinone and co-designing (with Dr. Michael DeBakey) an axial-type ventricular assist device in children. He has helped to build a successful cardiology practice as a company and was able to complete a deal on Wall Street. He is a committee member of the National Institute of Health pediatric grant review committee. He is also the editor of several textbooks in pediatric cardiology, including Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, Heart Failure in Children and Young Adults, and Pediatric Cardiology Board Review.

Alan Young, MD, MBA, PMP

Dr. Alan Young is a physician leader with a strong clinical and business consulting background. After completing a dual MD/MBA degree program at USC's Keck School of Medicine and Marshall School of Business, he obtained his medical license during his Orthopedic Surgery residency. Combining his passion for business and medicine, he served as a national healthcare subject matter expert Specialist Senior Consultant with Deloitte Consulting LLP while providing surgical physician services at Southern California Kaiser Permanente. At USC Care Medical Group he was the Director of Operations Strategy and Special Projects and then served as Regional Director of Client Relations with Sagacious Consultants and as a Senior Manager with Accenture. Currently the Client Service Leader for Slalom Consulting in LA and also leads the LA Chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs and is the CMIO Committee Chair for So-Cal HIMSS with a passion for innovative technology such as Artificial Intelligence to improve care.

Ethan Alexander

Ethan Alexander is a Digital Transformation Executive with Salesforce leading the Healthcare and Life Sciences Innovation practice. Ethan’s HLS Innovation team works with some of the largest Salesforce customers to help them identify and utilize technology to enhance then optimize their business processes. This is a free consulting service Salesforce provides our high growth customers who are looking to truly transform their organization.
 
Ethan Alexander holds the fortunate distinction of being the very first company ever acquired by Salesforce, Sendia in 2006. Today his company is known as Salesforce Mobile and is a cornerstone of customer Salesforce success platform and. is utilized in virtually every language on millions of iOS, Android and Windows devices the world over. Ethan is a graduate of Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach (Sorry Corona del Mar) and also attended Orange Coast College where he rowed Crew under Dave Grant before attending then graduating from the University of California, Berkeley. Ethan was an early HLS  advocate thanks to the numerous Payer, Provider, Pharma and Device customers who insisted on user friendly, customizable applications delivering real-time, personalized results. Today, Ethan’s team is championing data utilization through Artificial Intelligence strategies. Eugene Chu, MD

Dr. Chu attended medical school at UC San Francisco after graduating from Yale University. He completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is fellowship trained in Rhinology/Anterior Skull Base Surgery and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Currently, he serves as an Attending Physician at Kaiser Permanente and Clinical Assistant Professor at UC Irvine Medical Center. He is dual boarded in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive surgery and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the field of head and neck surgery. In addition, Dr. Chu is the Physician Director of Innovation and Performance Improvement and the Area Research Chair for Downey Medical Center.

As the Physician Director of Health Innovation, Dr. Chu has oversight over local innovation and performance improvement projects. Current pilots involve Internet of Things (IOT) devices for virtual visits with remote exam capabilities, virtual reality, and machine learning/artificial intelligence for clinical decision support. He is also a member of the region-wide 20*20 Champions who serve as ambassadors of the transformation work being done at Kaiser Permanente.

Jag Padala

As CTO of Tagnos, Jag is creating game changing products for the health care space with IOT, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.  Tagnos hospital solutions streamline patient, asset, and workforce flow throughout the hospital, ensure that operations and procedures occur on time, and facilitate clear communication across departments.  We have proven data that our hands-free, smart logistics solution simplifies patient flow and improves: patient experience, outcomes, room utilization and staff optimization.  Tagnos reduces cycle times and enhances patient experience by: improving internal and external communication, providing real time locations of patients and assets, and using analytics to better predict future patient flow. 

The products being created by Jag include orchestration modules for various service lines in the hospital such as ED, OR, CATH and GI. 

Jag has an Engineering and MBA background and started his career as a supply chain specialist. Jag worked several with several global organizations such as Motorola and Eaton to help optimize their international supply chains. 

Jag later led the engineering division at a startup based in the Orange County area called Logical Apps. As VP of Engineering he created the industry standard Governance , Risk and Compliance product that was sold to over 150 fortune 500 companies. Logical apps  was acquired by Oracle.
