As the local and federal governments declared states of emergencies due to Covid-19, the U.S. health care system scrambled to launch telehealth programs while closing ambulatory clinics; the goal was to decrease the exposure of the virus to our nation’s patients, staff, and community. BIDMC OnDemand, an emergency physician-staffed telehealth program in Massachusetts, led an effort to provide a no-charge platform in an effort to reduce exposure while treating our state’s patients with limited access to care. The digital transformation at BIDMC blossomed, and the innovation continued into the medical center and patient’s homes.
