We are pleased to announce our 2019 UHIMSS award winners who have demonstrated excellence in their contributions of health IT in our community.

Healthcare Tech Leader of the Year

Marc Probst | Intermountain Healthcare

Marc Probst has been a leader in Information Technology and Healthcare Systems for 30 years. He is nationally recognized as a CIO and has served as Board Member to several large health organizations as well as the Federal Healthcare Information Technology Committee which developed HIT policies for the US Government.

Marc has significant interest in using information technology to both increase patient care quality and lower the cost of care. He has rich experience in IT planning and design, deployment, and the development of policy for HIT related issues. He has used this experience to restructuring of the entire Information Services arm of Intermountain Healthcare...no easy task.

One colleague describes Marc saying “He has done this with no preconceived ideas and really tried to elicit feedback from everyone that is involved or would be impacted by this new change.

He is a strong leader with a clear, keen mind and is also a effective communicator. His leadership has been key in keeping Intermountain Healthcare at the leading edge of healthcare technology solutions.


Clinical Leader of the Year

Seraphine Kapsandoy PhD, RN | Intermountain Healthcare

Saraphine Kapsandoy is a results-driven Nursing Informatics Executive with an impressive career demonstrating success working across multiple departments to drive and support industry leading technology. With a strong clinical care background and advanced healthcare education, she is incredibly skilled to deliver projects that support improved quality of care, data integrity, enhanced security and regulatory compliance.

She led two of the most challenging Knowledge Bases on the Intermountain Healthcare Care Transformation Team in 2018, Pediatrics and Adoption & Support. Under her leadership, her teams successfully completed implementation of Intermountain’s EHR in 23 Acute-Care Hospitals, as well as provided ongoing optimization of that EHR for those hospitals, countless clinics, and ambulatory care facilities throughout Intermountain. Her efforts were recently recognized by one colleague stating “For me personally, during an incredibly challenging period of reorganization, Seraphine provided a level of personalized leadership and mentorship unsurpassed in my almost 20-year clinical career.”

Seraphine has led an impressive life and shares her talents and experience in the community as well as the clinic. She serves on the Board of the Women’s World Health Initiative and inspires all those around her. A piece of advice she gives to women “We strong, know yourself, know your value.”



Most Influential Woman in IT

Cheri Hunter | University of Utah Health

Cheri is the DIrector of Data Warehouse and Knowledge Managagment at University of Utah Heath Care and has lead many insitutional initiaves which are helping shift the healthcare market towards deliverying better care for each dollar spent. To date, the University of Utah has been able to account for over $15m in cost saving intiatives while developing, tracking, and expanding many ‘Perfect Care” standards in patient care.

There have been more than 50 publications from multiple providers using Value Driven Outcomes generated from her efforts. She is a considered a pioneer and describe by a fellow manager in this way. “Her innovation, dedication, attention to detail and willingness to attempt something never before accomplished elsewhere is just a small example of the type of leadership she exemplifies within the organization. “

She is recognized for her innovation in the business intelligence community nationwide, and we are proud to have her in our state. Thank you for leading the way towards innovation that is making a real difference.

Innovative Project of the Year

SafeUT App | University of Utah Health

Suicide is the #1 cause of death for Utah children between the ages of 10-17 and has reached crisis-level status. To mount an effective program to reduce the suicide rate and address school safety, SafeUT app was created to connect troubled students with trained professionals via their smartphone. The importance of this issue, and the commitment to helping the youth of our state is evident by the groups involved in its creation and oversight: University of Utah ITS, University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI), Utah Legislature, Utah Attorney General’s Office, Utah State Board of Education, Utah Department of Health and Human Services...just to name a few.

The SafeUT app is available for iPhone and android devices and allows individuals to access a crisis line to chat (via text), or talk with therapists standing ready to provide supportive listening, problem-solving, crisis- intervention, suicide prevention and more…. The app also has a tip line that can be used by students, parents, and educators to alert schools of concerns and/or safety issues.

In the last two years, more than 800 schools have enrolled in the SafeUT program. During 2018, 104,000 users joined and SafeUT licensed staff provided over 21,000 crisis chats and received nearly 340 tips for school threats. It has caught the attention of other states and efforts are underway to take the SafeUT app nationwide.

While we recognize the uphill battle to save the youth of our state, we are encouraged by the individual victories won through the efforts of the Safe UT app. A young LGTBQ man approached a SafeUT booth at an event and tearfully expressed “thank you, thank you, thank you, a hundred thank you’s. You saved my life, I wouldn’t be her without you”

We applaud SafeUT app and recognize it as a powerful tool helping the Utah community.


Patient Experience Project of the Year

PinPoint | Revere Health

WIth healthcare shifting from fee-for-service to a value-based care model, patient data and analytics are critical to improving the overall patient experience. PinPoint was developed by the Revere Health data analytics team to solve the challenges of collecting large amounts of data so that it can be sorted, analyzed, and provide actionable insights for patient care. Revere Health Care Providers are better able to meet their value-based care goals and improve the patient experience assisted by ‘real-time’ access to patient data made possible using PinPoint.

Jonathan Keller, and Caleb MacDonald led the PinPoint team in the project that took over 9 months to complete...although their work is never done. PinPoint continues to grow in features and capabilities based on input and suggestions from care providers and staff.

Revere Health CEO Scott Barlow is proud of the PinPoint team and what the program has meant to the quality of healthcare provided at Revere Health. “This tool has been foundational to the ability of Revere Health to reduce healthcare costs by well over 25% the past three years, while simultaneously improving every scientific measure of quality improvement and patient satisfaction that is tracked. It’s made the care received by our patients consistent, reliable, and comprehensive at each point of care regardless of location or service specialty.”

PinPoint was implemented in Revere Health in 2017 and has helped saved $20,000,000 over the last two years in Medicare patients alone and maintains consistently high scores. PinPoint continues to play a key role in Revere Health’s efforts towards more proactive care culminating in a great patient experience. In addition, PinPoint provides tools to 10,000+ other providers across the Country enhancing the care and value in those communities as well.
