Announcing THE WINNERS of the New England HIMSS Annual Student Poster Competition!

Congratulations to Roshani Patel from Sacred Heart University (1st place - $1000 gift card), Marlie Frisco from Siena College (2nd place - $500 gift card) and Swathi Kalagatla from Sacred Heart University (3rd place - $250 gift card).

By working together, the Student Activities Committee is more robust than ever. The contest provided students a voice and the opportunity to showcase their research to the Past Presidents Club. Thank you to all that applied, and for pushing yourself and your fellow students to think big! 

 

 

1St place: Roshani Patel from Sacred Heart University.

Poster Title: The Role of Telehealth in Managing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in A Rural Area

Bio:

I completed a BS in Dental surgery from India. I had knowledge and experience in Electronic Medical Records and improving the collection, access, and utilization of clinical data to give proper treatment. I worked for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and management of clinical applications. After coming to the USA, I did my MS in Healthcare Informatics from the Sacred Heart University. I am a recent graduate student and want to work in Clinical data management. The main goal of the career is to find a way to improve healthcare facilities while reducing costs with the help of advanced technology.

 

2nd place: Marlie Frisco from Siena College.

Poster title: Exploring the Digital Divide: Factors Related to the Use of Patient Portals

Bio:

I am a senior Health Studies/Health Science Major with a Minor in Biology and a Certificate in Community Development at Siena College in Loudonville, New York. I have spent my time at Siena as a Bonner Service Leader and a Peer Health Educator/Wellness Leader. As a Bonner, I volunteer at Whitney Young Health Center where I inform patients about the patient portal and ideally enroll them in it, providing the foundation for my research. I will be pursuing a Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing following the completion of my bachelor's degree.

 

3rd place – Swathi Kalagatla from Sacred Heart University

Poster title: The Role of Telehealth in the Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Bio:

Dr. Swathi Kalagatla worked as a consultant Pedodontist and clinic head for clove dental clinic in India for three years after receiving her master's degree in pedodontics dentistry. During my clinic practice, I realized that I lacked IT experience. Then I decided to pursue a career in healthcare informatics. I joined Sacred Heart University's Healthcare Informatics program. After graduation, I want to work as a clinical data analyst in the health IT industry. I want to explore myself in the field of the healthcare industry.
