Puerto Rico Health Information Exchange Participant:

In pursuit of Puerto Rico Act 40 of 2012, and all subsequent and associated Administrative Orders, the Puerto Rico Department of Health (PRDoH) is distributing this communication to notify all current and future data submitters to the Puerto Rico Health Information Exchange (PRHIE) about its revised and required data exchange standards and specifications. Documents

In partnership with the PRDoH, the PRHIE consistently works to align with current national health information terminology standards and interoperability policies. Our goal is to support the sustainable and efficient island-wide collection and use of health information across the Commonwealth’s healthcare community.

The modified standards pertain to Health Level Seven International (HL7) interface specifications for: Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), Laboratory and Radiology Results (ORU), and Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) messages.

The revised standards and specifications build upon the existing data sharing protocols that most participating institutions are already utilizing to transmit local data. Health Gorilla, the technical service provider contracted by PRDoH, will soon begin to communicate directly with institutions concerning any technical onboarding necessary to update existing integrations between current and pending data submitters to the PRHIE.

If the recipients of the communication have questions about this notification or the updated data sharing specifications, please contact Carlos Carrasquillo, carlos.carrasquillo@salud.pr.gov.

Thank you for your continued collaboration as we work to develop the PRHIE as a shared resource to support the healthcare system.

Cordially,

Lcda. Dinorah Collazo Ortiz
