Innovation Summit Recap - by Angelique Robateau

A Corporate Take on Healthcare Innovation

I attended the Synapse Innovation Summit in Tampa on 3/28. I was impressed by the Keynote speakers, by the wide array of exhibitors (AI, Blockchain, FinTech, IOT, Healthcare, AR/VR) and their respective incredible demonstrations. The vision shared was for Tampa and Florida to become the technology 'go to' place by attracting, growing and retaining critical skills required to drive innovation.

I had the honor of representing Central & North Florida HIMSS as one of the Panelists to discuss 'A Corporate Take on Healthcare Innovation' at one of the many break-out sessions. My fellow panelists (see below) and I had engaging conversations regarding the challenges of shortening the Sales Cycle, the role academia (e.g., USF) is playing in addressing Innovation, and the importance of policy to bring about change. The Central & North Florida HIMSS Chapter helps drive key ‘HIMSS Congressional Asks’ in Florida by educating its members (mostly hospitals and private practices) and working with Legislators regarding key Healthcare bills. The Opioid epidemic and natural disasters are other HIMSS priorities in Florida. Organizations and Individuals can become involved in the Central & North Florida HIMSS chapter by participating in these efforts to solve critical healthcare issues through technology and policy.
