In case you missed it...

Thank you for supporting this year’s Fall Conference, ‘‘’Fix the DAMN Roads!’ How Innovation, Interoperability, and Emerging Initiatives are Paving Michigan's Road to Health Equity and Access”. This conference was quite a success among attendees and speakers alike. The most frequent comment about the conference was the caliber and knowledge of the speakers representing regional and national experts focused on a timely and relevant topic for the Michigan healthcare ecosystem.

1. 4th Annual Symposium and Workshop: Precision Health – November 6th & 7th, Ann Arbor

The vision of learning health systems is to improve health and care by continuously turning health data into actionable knowledge. Precision medicine, the approach to prevention, diagnosis and treatment that takes individual factors like genes and behaviors into account, is a pathbreaking force in institutions that are increasingly realizing the LHS vision.

The 2019 symposium on the Ethical, Legal, & Social Implications of Learning Health Systems (ELSI-LHS) will focus on precision medicine this year, with an amazing lineup of speakers providing perspectives from a variety of fields, from computer science and medicine to anthropology and law. Topics will explore ethics, equity, active learning health initiatives, and future directions for innovation and research.

2. HIMSS20 Annual Conference, Michigan Chapter of HIMSS Event – March 9-13, 2020 in Orlando

The specific date for this Michigan Chapter of HIMSS event while at the annual conference will be released in December and we will post once available.

The event will be held in the Exhibit Hall for the conveniences of our members at the Connection booth, 2059.

3. Upper Peninsula Healthcare Cybersecurity Summit on November 8, 2019

The healthcare industry has become a prime target of cyber-attacks.The industry is facing a host of cyber security issues, not the least of which is the expanding threat landscape, growing connectivity thru the IoT, and the expanding number of medical devices used from providers to individuals. Each of these issues has a financial and reputational impact for providers, healthcare institutions, hospitals and third-party vendors. It also has a big impact on the health and patient care environment in which we all live and work.

The focus on aligning security efforts to support broader organizational objectives from patient care to financial growth is the focus of this one-day summit. Leaders will be especially interested in the morning sessions that focus on key healthcare business issues; the nexus between patient care and cyber threats; the growing need for cyber workforce and finally a legislative perspective on all the business challenges related to cyber security.

The afternoon “marketplace” was designed as a small business trade show, especially geared towards IT and Security operators. Vendors attending work primarily in the small and mid-tier market space, making their products and services especially appealing to the U.P. healthcare stakeholders.

The Summit, jointly sponsored by the Michigan Healthcare Cyber Security Council, the Lake Superior Community Partnership and InvestUP, is free to all attendees and vendors. Join us in partnering with NICE Community Schools and their K-12 peers as we provide advice and guidance to our region's cybersecurity high school students.
