Welcome 2022!

We hope everyone had a fabulous start to the new year. As expected, the new year brings in many new opportunities and additions to our programming efforts, and we are excited to share our quick updates.

Webinar Update

We are excited to share with you that on Monday, February 7th at 6:30 pm, CIO and CISO from Aspirus Health and senior managers from Nordic Consulting will present "A Day in the Life of a Healthcare IT Professional" in Hyland 2101 Anchor Bank Auditorium in UW Whitewater Campus. This in-person Industry Speaker Event is co-sponsored by UWW ISACA Student Chapter, HIMSS Wisconsin Chapter, and Cybersecurity Center for Business.

This event will provide the students the opportunity to learn all about the role of IT, computing, and Cybersecurity in the healthcare arena from the industry insiders.

More importantly, these employers are visiting UWW with a purpose to recruit the students and graduates for Health IT internships and full-time positions. We hope such sessions will encourage students to actively participate and support an intentional career development event like this one. This event will be recorded and posted later for a wider audience for viewing. Please see attachment for event details.

If you know anyone studying at UWW, please pass on this message!

STEM Future City - Event Update

We had an exceptional 2021-2022 at the Future Cities STEM Competition! This year’s theme was “Design a waste-free city that uses the principles of a circular economy.” The special award for Best Healthcare System, awarded by WI HIMSS Chapter, went to “Evergreen City,” as inspired, built and presented by Team Evergreen from Longfellow Middle School.

In addition to presenting on their approach to recyclable capabilities, Team Evergreen addressed healthy green space, behavioral health and overall costs of healthcare in their city.

We would also like to give kudos to the organizers, the schools and the students for very successfully pivoting from planning an in-person event to hosting the event virtually on ZOom in just a little more than a week. It was a very seamless experience for the judges.

Thanks to Jennifer Mueller, VP and Privacy Officer WHA Information Center, HIMSS member and AHIMA President Elect for 2022, who will be coordinating and leading the WI HIMSS volunteer judges for the Future Cities 2022-23 event.

If you’ve not yet volunteered to judge Future Cities, it is an energy packed event and you should stay tuned to this newsletter for opportunities to be a judge for the 2022-2023 event. Please feel free to reach out to Jennifer at jmueller@wha.org to express interest in judging.
