HIT/HIE Coalition Building Panel

Estimates indicate that the volume of health data now doubles every two years as compared to every five years in 2003 and that health data grows faster than any other industry. Meanwhile, research shows that the use of electronic health record systems greatly contributes to physician burnout and fatigue which consequently affects the quality of care. The Covid-19 pandemic necessitated the need for additional and large data collection and analysis to more adequately manage population health and the social needs of individuals that can impact their health in epidemics and other natural disasters. How can healthcare address these challenges and prepare for a future with even more information utilizing the best technology systems to address health challenges while making sure all receive the best care possible? What role can regional coalitions play in such complex and constantly growing environment of data overload? Is our region prepared and how can we all better prepare and lessen the obstacles created by data overload? This panel of experts and leaders will provide the on-the-ground experience from their diverse healthcare vantagepoints and try to shed some light on the many challenges they are faced with related to data and information sharing. Their insights will summarize some of the possible solutions for the road ahead and how we can be better prepared to improve healthcare outcomes while enhancing health equity across the many diverse and growing communities throughout the US.
