Megan Ranney MD

Director
Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health

Dr. Ranney is the Warren Alpert Endowed Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Founding Director of the Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health. Dr. Ranney’s career focus is on developing, testing, and disseminating digital health interventions to prevent violence and mental illness. She has had continuous external funding from NIH, PCORI, and foundation grants for a decade, and has over 120 peer-reviewed publications. She serves multiple national leadership roles, including as Chief Research Officer of AFFIRM Research (http://www.affirmresearch.org), the country’s leading non-profit committed to ending the gun violence epidemic through a non-partisan public health approach, and qs President of the Board of GetUsPPE.org, a start-up non-profit that is delivering donated personal protective equipment to those who need it most. She is an editor for Annals of Emergency Medicine, a Fellow of the fifth class of the Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship Program, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She has received numerous awards for technology innovation, public health, and research, including Rhode Island Woman Physician of the Year and the American College of Emergency Physicians’ Policy Pioneer Award. She is also a frequent media commentator on outlets ranging from CNN to the New York Times regarding the value of a national public health strategy. Dr. Ranney earned her bachelor’s degree in History of Science, graduating summa cum laude, from HarvardUniversity; her medical doctorate, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha, from Columbia University; and her master's in public health from Brown University. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine and a fellowship in Injury Prevention Research at Brown University. She was previously a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cote d'Ivoire. She lives in Rhode Island with her husband and two children. She is active on Twitter @meganranney.

Rasu B. Shrestha, MD, MBA, is executive vice president & chief strategy and transformation officer for Atrium Health, one of the most comprehensive and highly integrated not-for-profit healthcare systems in the nation. As a member of the executive leadership team, Dr. Shrestha is responsible for Atrium Health’s enterprise strategy, including planning and tactical direction for the organization’s current strategic roadmap and beyond. In addition, he spearheads a renewed focus on innovation, launching new healthcare inventions, discoveries and ideas to benefit the patients and communities that Atrium Health serves. He also provides executive leadership for corporate communications and marketing, as well as enterprise analytics, showcasing Atrium Health as a meaningful, national brand that leverages the power of data and insights.With a wealth of experience and national expertise in healthcare innovation, analytics and patient-centered care design, Dr. Shrestha joined Atrium Health in February 2019. Previously, he served as chief innovation officer for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where he was responsible for driving UPMC’s innovation strategy, serving as a catalyst in transformingthe payer-provider organization into a more patient-focused and economically sustainable system. In addition to leading innovation at UPMC, Dr. Shrestha also served as executive vice president of UPMC Enterprises, pushing the needle in the pursuit of a unique blend of healthcare intelligence, technological expertise and entrepreneurial drive to develop inventive and commercially successful solutions and address complex healthcare challenges.Dr. Shrestha is a respected thought leader and visionary in the field of healthcare information technology and was recently recognized as “Executiveof the Year” by Healthcare Dive and was acknowledged as one of the “Top 20 Health IT Leaders Driving Change” and as a “Top Healthcare Innovator” by InformationWeek. In addition, he serveson the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM),as well as Academy Health, and was the Chairman of the HIMSS Innovation Committee, and Co-chair of Health Datapalooza.
