February 2016 Austin HIMSS Newsletter

Message from the President > >

Hello chapter members,

I hope everyone enjoyed our last education event entitled, "Bridging the Data Gap: Emergency Medicine & Pre-Hospital Integration". Our speaker, Allen Johnson from ESO Solutions, explained the issues with the data silos that exist between ambulances and hospitals. Clearly there are use cases that improve patient outcomes especially with regard to a closed loop medication administration system, among others.

As a continuation on the discussion regarding how organizations can coordinate patient care among their data silos, our March speaker will be Dave Baker, Chief Architect for Ascension Information Services. He will be discussing how enterprise architecture can be used as a business strategy. All too often hospitals make purchasing decisions without regard for how those acquired systems will fit in with the overall solution suite.  Planning the business strategy by engaging the business leaders and soliciting their needs, healthcare organizations can use that detail to drive their technology roadmap.

As a reminder, the deadline to apply for the Austin HIMSS Chapter Board of Directors Student Liaison position is February 24th. For details, please refer to the News and Announcements section of the newsletter below.

I'm looking forward to the National HIMSS Convention at the end of this month in Las Vegas, NV. I'm excited to attend the educational events and catch up with industry friends. I hope to see many of you there as well.

All the best,
-Doug Burkott, FHIMSS
