Chapter Website Update
HIMSS will be rolling out a new website platform to all chapters this spring. This new platform is intented to be more user-friendly with fewer steps to do routine tasks. HIMSS staff would like to ensure that chapter boards and webmaster are prepared for this change. HIMSS will host two training sessions tentatively scheduled for late-April and May to better prepare stakeholders for website transition. Both sessions are available to all chapter leaders and will be recorded for all to review as well. Additional information will be available as we move closer to these dates, but send any questions to Chapter Staff.

HIMSS16 Chapter Recap
Thank you for helping to make HIMSS16 a huge success. Thanks to volunteers, HIMSS16 is the number one largest healthcare tradeshow in the U.S. with 42,000 conference attendees this year. HIMSS hopes the chapter leader conference attendees were able to attend some of the fantastic chapter events. During the conference, there were 22 chapter luncheons/receptions and 18 chapters exhibited at the Communities Open House.

HIMSS hosted a Chapter Leader Workshop with 97 attendees from 44 chapters. A special thanks to Curt Schatz, from the New Mexico Chapter, for planning a well-attended president/president elect meet-and-greet at HIMSS Spot.

HIMSS16 Education Session Recordings
Many of the sessions from HIMSS16 will be available to attendees via the HIMSS Learning Center. The official “HIMSS16 Thank You” email will be sent to attendees soon, but some educational sessions are already available at the HIMSS16 website. Sessions are searchable by topic, professional role, type and CE credits available. Some will include supplemental handouts or materials as well (denoted by the download symbol). Check out the recording update for details and specifics.

Veteran’s Journey to HIMSS16
HIMSS strives to connect with the nation’s veteran population, none more evident than the work being done by the Veteran Career Services (VCS) team. Many chapter leaders are well aware of VCS efforts, as 15 chapters sponsored a total of 19 veterans to attend HIMSS16, paying for lodging, meals and travel for the invaluable opportunity to learn and grow professionally in the HIT field.

HIMSS Innovation Center Video
The HIMSS Innovation Center is the only physical and virtual, state-of-the-art, testing, exhibition and conference facility that offers real-time demonstration of how healthcare technologies contribute to safer, higher quality and more cost-effective care and ensures that information gets to the right people at the right time to enable informed decisions.

The Innovation Center offers a highly visible and connective environment, catering to all individuals with a stake in healthcare, including healthcare technology solution providers; healthcare executives and professionals; policy influencers; and healthcare consumers.

HIMSS has recently released a new HIMSS Innovation Center Video. Chapters are free to reference this video in presentations, post on the chapter’s website or integrate into an upcoming board meeting where appropriate. If you are interested in other marketing or promotional options, send a note to Chapter Staff.

Health Business Solutions: Working on Issues that affect you
The Health Business Solutions area identifies and promotes the use of health IT for efficient, cost-effective execution of financial and administrative functions within healthcare. Current areas of focus include revenue cycle improvement; alternative payment models; analyzing federal public policy proposals technical functionality requirements; and operationalizing ICD-10.

Members of each chapter are being directly impacted by all of these activities. HIMSS welcomes the opportunity to join a chapter event to share information on the specific work being done, and encourage chapters to invite members to consider joining a task force.

Revenue cycle improvement:
Rapid growth in direct patient financial responsibility, changing payment models, and shifting consumer expectations create unique challenges for legacy revenue cycle management processes and tools. HIMSS Revenue Cycle Improvement task force has developed a vision for the Patient Financial Experience of the Future that addresses these issues while keeping administrative cost containment, interoperability and consumer engagement front and center.

Pay-for-value payment models:
With CMS and commercial payers announcing aggressive goals for transitioning Medicare hospitals and providers from fee-for-service to pay-for-value payment models, HIMSS wondered how well prepared for the change provider organizations consider themselves to be. Most of the industry’s legacy revenue cycle technology does not include the functionality required to support a value-based payment system. The first annual HIMSS Healthcare Cost Accounting Survey was designed to check the pulse of provider readiness for value-based payment models and identify ways in which HIMSS and others can help them manage this challenge in the most effective way possible.
