The Indiana HIMSS Chapter sponsored a screening of “No Matter Where” at the Keystone Arts Cinema on February 8, 2016. The over 100 attendees watched as the movie conveyed the importance of the Health Information Exchange (HIE) in improving patient care. No Matter Where chronicles the bumpy journey of the HIE and its difficulty obtaining a foothold in American society, as well as providing examples of those who benefited from its existence and those who suffered loss in its absence. Viewers witnessed how Hurricane Katrina victims watched their paper medical records get washed away without any hope of retrieval due to the lack of their electronic existence. Conversely, Moore, Oklahoma tornado victims were able to seamlessly access their medical records after the tragedy due to having a viable HIE, which ensured records were available electronically. Following the movie, a five-person panel comprised of those well versed in the importance of the HIE in improving healthcare answered attendee questions.

The evening culminated with a social hour in the Keystone Indie Lounge. Here participants were able to speak with WGU Indiana representatives about continuing education opportunities, as well as to network and enjoy great food, drinks, and conversation. Furthermore, panel members were on hand to answer additional questions that arose concerning the HIE. This was an informative and fun event that highlighted the value of our medical information being accessible no matter where we are.
