Optum will provide an overview of a study we conducted on the impact of secure housing for the chronically homeless in L.A. County on utilization, including key findings from the project and actions that can be taken to improve health outcomes, utilization, quality, and engagement among this population.

Speakers:
Ali Shirvani-Mahdavi, Ph.D., Vice President of Analytics Consulting at Optum
Ali Shirvani-Mahdavi, Ph.D., is the Vice President of Analytics Consulting at Optum with a focus on consumer analytics and member engagement and is located in Minneapolis. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare and analytics consulting, Ali has an extensive and diverse background in healthcare analytics, social determinants of health, quality management, and consumer behavior in the healthcare marketplace.
Prior to joining Optum, Ali was the Executive Vice President of Health and Behavioral Sciences at a leading technology company focused on using technology, big data, analytics, and behavioral sciences to drive member activity to help improve population health and quality in government-sponsored plans (MA, Medicaid, and QHP).
In addition, Ali spent over 10 years at UnitedHeatlhcare’s Medicare Advantage business as the head of Reporting and Analytics, and Accenture, where he led a number of transformational projects in analytics and customer engagement for Best Buy, AT&T, and Stanford Hospitals and Clinics.
Ali received his Ph.D. in Behavioral Economics and Masters in System Engineering from MIT.
Maggie Carragher, Consultant, Optum Advisory Services
Maggie is a consultant within the Optum Advisory Services Delivery practice and has been with Optum since September 2017. She has project management, project coordination, data analysis, vendor management, and business analysis experience with provider hospital systems, payers, and care delivery organizations. Maggie has worked on several projects within health management and managed analytics, specifically managed care, compliance, utilization management, vendor management, care modeling, care program evaluation, social determinants of health, and consumer analytics. She has designed and implemented an aggregated team capacity tracking tool to manage individual and team workloads, co-authored a white paper titled “Impact of Secure Housing on Reducing Utilization,” and contributed to another paper titled “Identifying Savings through SDOH: Optum’s Impactable Care Management Model.” She is experienced at synthesizing and presenting complex data to senior leadership and clients.
Maggie is a graduate of Optum’s Consulting Development program where she performed a capstone project in researching and proposing strategies to provide justice-involved populations with remote behavioral health care.
She graduated from Carleton College (Northfield, MN) with a bachelors in Sociology & Anthropology and a minor in French & Francophone Studies, focusing her research on global women’s health issues and questions.
Maggie lives in Chicago, IL and has served clients throughout the United States. Outside of work, Maggie enjoys running along Lake Michigan, trying new restaurants, and cooking.
