Cybersecurity

Information technology is increasingly a part of every aspect of the healthcare industry. While more organizations are implementing electronic health records (EHR), health information exchanges (HIE), or computerized physician order entry systems (CPOE), patients remain concerned about the privacy and security of their information. Even though most healthcare organizations have at least implemented electronic financial records these need to be protected just as much.  In addition, legal requirements, such as HIPAA, impact what information organizations must keep secure and how it should be done. Healthcare leaders and the CIO's are often asked to lead the way in which security initiatives are designed and deployed; without knowing where technology will lead us in the coming years, while obtaining the buy-in and trust of staff, patients and the community.

Topics that will be discussed include, but not limited to:

Planning for long-term information security

Understanding an information security risk assessment

Regulatory impact on information security

Staff participation in security measures

Fostering an organizational culture that values information privacy and security
