President - Curt Schatz

Curt Schatz

Curt Schatz is a seasoned executive with 20+ years of management experience at the senior levels of IT with the last 10 devoted to healthcare. Mr. Schatz currently serves as Chief Information Officer - UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New Mexico. Curt has a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Information Technology Management and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. Curt is a Fellow (FHIMSS) of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, serves on the Advisory Committee for the New Mexico Health Information Collaborative, (the New Mexico Health Information Exchange, HIE), and the Board of the New Mexico Technology Council.

Curt is the Advocacy Chair for the New Mexico Chapter as well.

Secretary - Rose Marie Prince

Rose Prince

Rose Marie Prince is a Registered Nurse with over 33 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, focusing on clinical care, business management and information technology, ultimately serving as the Director of Clinical informatics, Education and Telemedicine at Presbyterian Home Healthcare. Rose has spent the last eight years in Information Technology at Presbyterian Healthcare Services in a variety of roles and functions including Systems Analyst, Configuration Management Analyst, IT Process Manager for Access Management and Request Fulfillment, Audit Coordinator, Policy Manager, and Systems Analyst for compliance, legal, audit and record archival management, allowing her to “blend her love of nursing with her new found inner geek”.  Rose has five ITIL certifications and is currently a Certified HIPAA Professional, Certified Security Compliance Specialist and a Certified TIPA® assessor for ITIL. In addition to her degree in nursing, Rose has an MBA in Healthcare Management and a Masters in Nursing with an Informatics specialization. Rose has an insatiable zest for learning and sharing her knowledge with others, and her high-energy and enthusiastic personality keeps her quite active in both her work and personal life.  She fully commits to any project or task in which she is working, striving to deliver quality services and products to those that she serves. 

 

Treasurer - Bindu Purushothaman

Bindu Purushothaman is a Healthcare IT executive with 20+ years of experience in technology. She is very passionate about Healthcare and believes that technology has a crucial role in transforming today’s health care delivery model, meeting the demands of today’s tech savvy consumers while improving the quality of care and effectively controlling the cost. She believes transforming healthcare requires us to accelerate value and innovation through the tremendous data set we have, we must strengthen our muscles in this area and it is up to us as leaders in our community to lead that transformation. Bindu is currently serving as the Market Chief Information Officer of DaVita Medical Group in New Mexico. Bindu has a Masters in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Electronics Engineering.

Programming and Education - Kevin Carey

Kevin Carey is a senior healthcare management and business development leader, whose career has spanned multiple settings; clinical care-giver and U.S. Navy veteran, hospital administrator with multiple not-for-profit health systems, and managed care consultant for payors such as Aon and BCBS plans.  For the past 15 years Kevin has been promoting and delivering all aspects of healthcare information technologies to Payors, Providers, and Government Contractors.  Kevin currently serves as Enterprise Sales Executive for the Rocky Mountain Region for Allscripts, Inc. (a $1.4B company exclusively focused on healthcare information technology operating world-wide with 20 offices and 8,000 employees). He holds an MBA and MHSA from the University of Kansas, board certified in healthcare management since 1997 and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Kevin is a CPHIMSS in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and is looking forward to participating in, giving voice to and positioning NMHIMSS as an engaged, active and visionary chapter of HIMSS.

Nicole Streu is currently an Account Manager for TEKsystems where she works as a business partner for IT staffing and services to healthcare clients throughout the State of New Mexico.. Nicole has a degree in Marketing and Business from the Anderson School of Management from UNM. She is heavily involved in volunteer work, serving as the President of the Albuquerque Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi, a delegate to the Albuquerque Metropolitan Alumnae PanHellenic Association, the TEKsystems ambassador to Albuquerque Economic Development and a member of the Junior League of Albuquerque.

 

Communications – Jim Ward

Jim Ward is a Senior medical device sales representative with 15 years of experience. Currently working with ConMed Surgical and on an opportunity with Allscripts. Graduated with a bachelor of business administration degree.

 

Member at Large – Michael Herrick

Michael Herrick is the founder of HIPAA.host, an Albuquerque based risk-management firm. He assists clients on issues of security, compliance, and process integration.

 

 

We are making great progress and are seeing year-over-year increases in growth, member involvement and the frequency and quality of our events. I see more of this growth in the next fiscal year and am anxiously looking forward to working with the extremely talented group listed above.

 

On a more somber note, Samantha Lapin, the NM-HIMSS Treasurer since 2008 is rolling off the Board this year. Her contributions to the Chapter, her business acumen and her leadership have been absolutely crucial to the Chapter. Personally, Samantha is easily one of the most generous, intelligent and delightful people I have had the opportunity to work with. I have the greatest respect and appreciation for Samantha and she will be sorely missed.
