Maryland HIMSS Chapter ANNOUNCES ANNUAL HEALTH IT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES

Baltimore, Maryland (September 18, 2018) The Maryland HIMSS Chapter is pleased to announce the recipients of their annual Health IT scholarship. The application process requires students to be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, masters or doctorate program related to health information management systems field. Applicants are reviewed and selected based on academic achievement, personal statement, recommendations and need.

 

“After receiving a large number of applications, the review committee selected two scholarship recipients that exemplifies academic excellence and leadership in healthcare information and management systems industry. We are pleased to present the Maryland HIMSS 2018 award recipients, Mary Kerns and Phuong Tran.” said Anna E. Schoenbaum, Chair of Professional Development for the Maryland HIMSS Chapter and Enterprise Director of Clinical Systems at the University of Maryland Medical System.

 

Mary Kerns is currently employed as a clinical analyst at Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland Maryland. She is enrolled in the Master Program in Health Informatics Administration at the University Of Maryland University College with an expected graduation date of May 2020. Upon completion of the degree, Mary hopes to apply her knowledge and education as an informatics leader in Healthcare IT.

 

Phuong Tran is currently employed as an Application Program IV at the University of Maryland Medical System. He is enrolled in the Master Program in Data Science at the Johns Hopkins University.

Upon completion of the degree, Phuong’s hopes to apply his knowledge and education in growing as a specialized analyst working with healthcare data in population health, predictive analytics, and precision medicine with goals to become a leader and technology innovator in healthcare.

MD HIMSS remain committed to growing and supporting our local workforce through our scholarship program and by providing forums for ongoing professional development” said Karen Marie Wilding, President of the Maryland HIMSS Chapter and Senior Director of Quality and Value Based Care at UMMS.

 

The Maryland Chapter of HIMSS is the state-wide, grass-roots group of professionals with a focus on information technology in healthcare; they represent over 1800 clinicians, allied health, government, business and technology professionals. In addition to the $2,500.00 award, recipients also receive

  • Honorary Maryland HIMSS Chapter Membership for one year
  • Admittance into all Chapter Education Programs at no cost
  • Appointment to a chapter committee of choice
