Maryland HIMSS Chapter ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CHARITY PROGRAM RECIPIENT

Baltimore, Maryland (June 13, 2018) –  The Maryland HIMSS Chapter is pleased to announce the 2017 – 2018 recipient of its annual Charity Program: MissionFit.

MissionFit, a Maryland-based non-profit organization that strengthens Baltimore’s youth by providing education on the benefits of living a “healthier lifestyle” and is committed to the physical and mental health of youth ages 11-24, is granted funds for its health tracking systems.

“It was a goal of the Community Outreach Program Committee to select a charity that is transforming healthcare in our state by educating our youth on the importance of mental and physical health,” says Kyle Swarts, Vice Chair, Community Outreach Committee, Maryland HIMSS Chapter. “By providing free fitness classes, entrepreneurship mentoring programs and offering sessions with 60-75 youth per week, MissionFit was clearly the best fit to represent our Community Outreach Program.”

“We are excited to celebrate MissionFit as our inaugural Charity Program recipient and are committed to continuing to promote and collaborate with grassroots efforts that advance overall health with the use of technology.  Making our communities healthier is a shared responsibility that we all have and one that our Board of Directors feel strongly to prioritize.  Generating an early impact on Maryland’s youth can help influence and drive the importance of living healthier and making wise choices. This year we will be donating $2,500 to MissionFit, which will be used to purchase FitBits and IPads to track, monitor and promote health and wellness,” says Karen Marie Wilding, President, Maryland HIMSS Chapter.

The Board of Directors would like to thank 2017-2018 Maryland HIMSS Corporate Sponsor Connection Enterprise Solutions for their partnership in procurement of IPads and FitBits to MissionFIt in support of our Charity Program. “Connection Enterprise Solutions donation will help maximize MissionFit’s monetary award and allow the organization to make additional technology investments that will positively impact Baltimore’s youth,” says Kyle Swarts.

The Maryland Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) mission and vision aligns to the core values and attributes of MissionFit. Consistent with our local and national agenda, MissionFit assists with:

  • Supporting Healthcare Transformation
  • Expanding Access to High Quality Care
  • Increasing Economic Opportunity
  • Making Communities Healthier

“Maryland HIMSS Chapter’s decision to make MissionFit the beneficiary of the 2018 Charity Program does wonders for a growing non-profit that is making a positive impact in Baltimore’s inner-city youth. The proceeds received will assist in the creation of programs and opportunities to strengthen healthy minds and bodies in the communities we serve,” says Geoffrey Blake, Executive Director and Co-Founder, MissionFit.
