From the President

Hello Maryland HIMSS Members -

Summer flew by, school is in session and “fall implementation season” is here!  So many of you are focused on large projects within your respective organizations to close 2018 strong; it can be a stressful and exciting time. As a partner to you and the industry, we are happy to provide opportunities for our members to grow and “kick-back”.

We have added several leaders to our Board of Directors; I couldn’t be more humbled to work alongside this incredible group.  They are bringing fresh ideas and focus to areas that we know you are looking for such as professional development, supporting our veterans and forums focused on emerging topics. Please take an opportunity to introduce yourself during one our upcoming events; we’d love to hear from you!

This fall we are going to celebrate family with a special event at Larriland Farms on the 29th of September.  Behind every leader is a support system that we know is foundational to your success as a professional. It’s important to take pause and truly to have work/life balance.  Come pick apples with your significant other, let the kids wander the corn maze or enjoy a hayride!

Save the Date for U.S. National Health IT Week

U.S. National Health IT Week, held October 8-12, 2018, is a nationwide awareness week focused on the value of healthcare IT. It is an independent week made up of partner-driven events offering healthcare stakeholders an opportunity to unite under one banner, one message: the benefits health information technology can bring to U.S. healthcare. Maryland HIMSS will be attending advocacy events and we’d love to have you join us.

It is a pleasure to continue to serve this chapter, and I am looking forward to what the upcoming year will bring.  Please feel free to let me know any thoughts or feedback you may have. I can be reached at md.president@himsschapter.org.

Stay tuned for announcements on future events and opportunities to volunteer. Have a wonderful Fall!

Best,

Karen

Community Outreach Committee

Over the summer the Community Outreach Committee has experienced a changing of the guard, addition of new committee members, a roll-out of new Corporate Sponsorship levels and the launch of our Charity Program! Oh, and we had a little fun at Nick’s Fish House on August 8th to kick-off our first of many social events. Over 75 Maryland HIMSS members attended!

First, I wanted to send a “Thank-You” to Bob Hooper who has and continues to be a great mentor to members of the Committee and assisting with my transition into the Chairman role and Jennifer Moore as the Vice-Chair. Bob is a tremendous asset and I have big shoes to fill!

The success of the Community Outreach Committee and the functions we perform each day requires the commitment of passionate volunteers who support our state and national HIMSS mission and vision. To ensure we support our vendor partners, drive membership and stay connected to our community, I will be adding several new committee members including: Lauren Satyshur, Brian Fay, Marianne Berger and Unique Moore. Welcome Team!

We have rolled out a new Corporate Sponsorship program that includes added benefits to our vendors and provides greater exposure to our MD HIMSS membership! The vendor feedback on the new levels has been tremendous and our Educational, Networking and Social events are dependent on their participation. Our new sponsorship levels include Elite, Premium Plus and Premium and we have maintained our Corporate level. Check out our Corporate Sponsor brochure on the MD HIMSS website for more information.

The MD HIMSS Board of Directors launched its Charity Program almost a year ago. The 2017 – 2018 Charity Program recipient was MissionFit and they received a $2,500 donation. MissionFit, is a Maryland-based non-profit organization whose mission and vision is to strengthen Baltimore’s inner-city youth by providing education and fitness classes on the benefits of living a “healthier lifestyle” and is committed to the physical and mental health of youth ages 11-24. The organization used the funds for its health tracking systems.  We are currently accepting applications for the 2018 – 2019 recipient!

Our Committee will be busy this fall and encourage you to stop by the booths of our Vendor Partners during the Fall Networking (September 17th) and Fall Educational events (November 30th)!
