Update of the HITECH Act:

Panel/Dinner Presentation

Presented by the Health Care Management Program of Iona College’s School of Business

The event will focus on the extension of training programs sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) to address the participation of clinical personnel in adopting Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and “meaningful use” as well as the adoption of analytics in decision support. In collaboration with six other educational institutions, the leadership of the Columbia University Department of Biomedical Informatics and Suffolk County Community College are updating the 20 existing modules and adopting five additional modules to train 6,000 incumbent health care workers nationally to use new health information technologies in a variety of settings. 

This forum will address the background and adoption of the HITECH act and its training components, the implementation issues and the hurtles of the past decade (technical and human resources), along with the goals and objectives of the current ONC training initiative.

The panel will include: John Bosco, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Northwell Health and its 22 hospital network; Dr. Bruce Darrow, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), Mt. Sinai Medical Center; Raven David, MPH, CHTS-PW, Department of Biomedical Informatics-Columbia University;Jeanne Maloney, Assistant Dean-Workforce Development and Community Education-Westchester Community College; and moderator Paul Savage, Program Director, Health Care Management, and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Iona College.

The program is aimed at members of professional associations including the Health Leaders of New York (HLNY), Hospital Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), NY Health Planning Society and the Connecticut chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, as well as others in the field.
