Message from the President
Wow! 2015 has been an incredible year for those of us in healthcare. Healthcare reform continues in our country, and we can look in amazement at the many incredible accomplishments and great progress we are witnessing this year. As members of our award winning Southern California HIMSS chapter, we have truly been at the forefront of many of the transformational events that have occurred this year. I would like to thank all of our chapter members and volunteers, and especially those that have attended our many local events or accessed our online educational resources. It is a privilege to serve our chapter members and experience the exciting changes taking place in our industry.

It was an exciting evening in Chicago as the HIMSS15 Awards Gala was kicked off at the Chicago Hilton Grand. Each year at our National meeting, our HIMSS National recognizes outstanding contributions to HIMSS and the healthcare industry.

HIMSS SoCal’s 5th Annual HIT and Innovation Forum

The California Endowment…. Just East of Downtown Los Angeles, neighboring Olvera Street, Chinatown and Union Station, a light, modern structure houses a private health foundation dedicated to expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare.
Their slogan ‘Health Happens Here’ challenges us to think about health beyond the doctor's office. Our health happens where we live, learn, work and play.

CxO Corner - Focus on Innovation at HIT2015

As part of our focus on innovation at our annual HIT Forum, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to do live interviews with many of our keynote speakers and panelists. Our speakers were pleased to share additional insight into their approaches to driving innovative practices across their organizations to support key Initiatives. Doug Goldstein and Gregg Masters with Health Innovation Media provided the interviewing and video support to conduct our onsite interviews. We are pleased to share several of these with our Chapter members for review.
Past Presidents' Dinner

The HIMSS SoCal Chapter President, Mr. James Brady and the Board of Directors hosted a dinner for the Chapter Past Presidents on January 30th in Newport Beach following the Privacy & Security Forum. President-Elect, Mr. Sri Bharadwaj, led a high-level strategy discussion and engaged the participants for their input as we develop our strategy for the next five years. Chapter leaders were delighted and fortunate for the exciting and unique opportunity to review the great foundation laid by our past board members and leaders, and discuss considerations for sustained success for the upcoming years. There was collectively over 200 years of healthcare IT expertise in the room ranging from vendors, technology leaders, nurses and clinicians. Our thanks and appreciate to the past presidents and leaders that shared their time with us.

Programs at Work this Year! Highlights from a fantastic group of individuals. Yet another stellar year!
Programs had a busy winter. The Healthcare IT Conference was held last month. Mark Jahn and Sunny Saran co-chaired a program that featured a keynote by our fearless leader, James Brady, and 12 excellent speakers and panelists. We also put on an Innovation Lab with 10 vendors demonstrating their innovative healthcare solutions. Even though it was held on a Monday, we had our highest registration, 294, for the HIT Conference yet.

Volunteers from the HIMSS SoCal Academic Alliance Community hosted a booth at the USC Marshall Healthcare Conference at the University of Southern California (USC) on March 6, 2015, to educate attendees about the SoCal HIMSS chapter and to recruit participation. The event focused on "Transforming Care: Driving Innovation in the Healthcare Industry," and included keynotes from Dan Castillo, CEO of LAC and USC Medical Center, Kedrick D. Adkins, Jr., CFO of Mayo Clinic, and Mary Lehmann, VP of Finance and Treasurer of Amgen.

Vish Nath, IT Program Director for Molina Healthcare, and Ian Slade, HIMSS SoCal VP for Advocacy and Public Policy, represented the committee. Richard Hodge, Senior Director for Congressional Affairs, Steve Pavlick, HIMSS National Government Relations, and Julie Brown, HIMSS National Associate Manager for State Government Affairs accompanied the SoCal team.

The 7th Annual Clinical Informatics Summit was held May 15th at the UCI Beckman Center. The theme for this year was “The Clinical Informatics Journey” and included adistinguished lineup of speakers and experts. The conference provided comprehensive insights into the latest innovation and technology that will shape and influence the future of patient care.
